In China this fabric was only worn by the higher classes!
Only the rich could afford to wear this... centuries later satin became popular as underwear because of the smooth texture! Then the cropped satin dresses appeared at the Hollywood stars as to show their feminine figure. Due to the development of the synthetic fabrics, satin became more affordable and was allowed to conquer the regular fashion! Since then, satin has become an indispensable season trend, think of a satin pyama, pillowcase, sheet, dress, skirt...
