Bernadette, the must-have that you can't miss!

Since the very beginning of ellemilla, the Bernadette gilet has been a fixed value in our collection! I wanted a knitted cardigan that you could wear any time of the day, in any season and on any outfit...
Bernadette's been there ever since, season after season! We can't live without her 😆

The name Bernadette also sounds so cozy and immediately reminds you of the cozy moments at your home or with your family, in the company of coffee and cake! Cozy feelings assured 🎀

In winter, this garment is without a doubt your favorite gilet that you will reach for the most!
In summer, I think it's really great to let the gilet hang a bit casually over my outfit. I'll combine it with a nice shirt or lace top. And yes... when I wake up or hang out on the couch I always reach for my old faithful Bernadette 😊 We can always count on you Bernadette!

A little interview with our good friend Bernadette!

"I'm Bernadette and I'm looking forward to meeting you! I have a very warm character, always ready for a soft hug, you can count on me every season and your partner in crime on casual days!"

Hi Bernadette, where did you get your warm character?

"My knitting feels super soft, that's because I'm made of acrylic and mohair! 😊 Acryl has many similarities to wool! It is a soft and warm material that retains its color well and is perfectly resistant to creasing! Mohair is nice and fluffy and soft and also retains warmth very well... I am there for you when you need comfort and warmth!"

Do you fit with every clothing style?

"My oversized model can be worn on an awful lot of clothes and can be combined with any clothing style! Yes, I like to make your life easier. 😁 Do you want me short? Long? Extra oversized? Extra finely woven? It's all possible! You choose the right model so that we fit together perfectly! I come in handy every season!"

What colors do you exist in?

"Oh, honey, I exist in so many colors! I've made it very difficult for you hihi, I exist in the classic colors like black, white and grey. But I also adapt to the seasons, so in spring I have extra cheerful spring colors like mint green and pastel yellow! Being noticed is also a good quality of me... Look at the orange, fuchsia, yellow and purple colors! 🌈 For every mood I have a color!"

How did you get your name?

Bernadette is a French girl's name and means "Brave as a bear"!
This vest is therefore also for all the brave women of ellemilla! Nice to know: my designer's name is Bernadette De Geyter. 😊

The Original Bernadette stands for comfy and cozy! That's because of the extra large sleeves & baggy fit 😊 The knitting feels super soft, that's because of the acrylic and mohair that's incorporated in it! I'm doing just fine in my Extra Fine!

The Extra Fine is woven a little finer than the Original Bernadette. The sleeves are a bit tighter and the model falls straight down! So if you don't like baggy, this topper is really something for you!

I want to remain a classic!

This Classic gets his inspiration from the Original Bernadette! The shoulder seam falls equally low, only the sleeves are a little tighter. The weaving technique is also a bit rougher and looser! And you know what's really great? This gilet contains 80% mohair!

They are extra long, extra comfy & extra baggy! The sleeves are nicely finished with a wider sleeve end! HOW TO WEAR




I usually wear the Bernadette loose over my outfit! In spring it is on my favo jeans with a laced top tucked in, in warm weather it is on a short and top or a frivolous dress! It gives your outfit a nonchalant touch 🎀

Are you someone who likes to try something different? Even then the Bernadette can be surprising! For example, wear the Special Knitted Bernadette crossed over and tucked into your pants so it stays in its place!

Or tie the ends at the bottom loosely together for a summer proof look! Speaking of summer... Bernadette is wonderful company on a chilled summer evening or when you go to a festival to casually tie around your hips!

Do you want to go for a slightly fancier style? Then I like to wear them around my shoulders, tying the sleeves together in the front. 😊 Classy you!

Some tips & tricks to stay friends with Bernadette for as long as possible!

  • Are you a bit sensitive to stinging? Then you'd better choose Classic Bernadette! This one has a little less fluffy wool than the Original Bernadette!

  • Also, it's always a good idea to put Bernadette in the freezer for a night... Don't worry, she won't freeze hihi!

  • Don't wash too often! But sometimes you can't help it, just look at the washing instructions and be careful!

  • Finally, give Bernadette lots of love back! She'll love it!
